Most of the municipality’s areas are covered by sewage systems, but in general most of the municipality’s roads need maintenance and the storm water drain system needs to be enhanced. Due to the dramatic increase in the number of inhabitants the municipality needs to build tunnels and bridges in order to reduce traffic congestion. An agricultural area, with an industrial city. There is a development area built as a center for entrepreneurs, telecom companies, and the Young and educated community. There are two refugee camps for Palestinian refugees in Irbid Municipality’s areas. Irbid Municipality has succeeded in paying off all of its debts, and increasing its budget. Irbid Municipality consists of twenty-three administrative areas. Two districts are located within Irbid municipality – Al Qasaba District and Bani Obeid District. Most of the government directorates have offices in Irbid, also it is considered the center of the northern governorates. Irbid Municipality is located in the far north-west of Jordan. It is a part of Irbid Governorate (71 km away from Amman and 20 km away from the Syrian border). It has been inhabited for over than 5,000 years.
